Non-drying oils like vegetable oil or olive oil, should never be used on food storage bowls, as they will leave a sticky and smelly finish that will spoil stored food.

Being an opaque finish, it also conceals your wood's natural characteristics. Without wiping off any of the oil, I applied a second coat, leaving it on an additional 15-20 minutes.

We would like to use an oil but unsure what type would be best. No matter how many coats you apply, the finish will eventually become brittle, then crack and blister - and will ultimately fail. The soft bristles do a great job of removing the dust without leaving streaks or scratches in the bare wood. If you decide to use an oil finish, you will achieve better protection if you choose a product that contains an ultraviolet blocker.
Gently rinse with clean water, using an abrasive cleaning pad or bronze wool to open up the pores of the wood and remove the cleaner.
What can I use to remove the linseed oil from the varnished surfaces please. I am happy that I did not, as apparently it could mildew.
It was bought from floors to go as oiled finish but the fitter advised me to oil it when it was fitted saying the factory oiling was only a thin layer.
